The myths adapted for these choruses were contributed by Chiricahua Apache scout and Spanish–American war veteran Lawrence Mithlo (1862 – 1938) of the Fort Sill Apache Tribe.
These myths were first spoken in Chiricahua Apache, a Southern Athabaskan dialect closely related to Mescalero Apache, Navajo, and Western Apache. There are about 1,000 speakers of Chiricahua livingtoday in the American Southwest, mostly within the Mescalero Apache Tribe and Reservation.
